Development...and Development

Sports development is key to integrating sports in the society, development seems to be a buzzword once more.but there is development.... and then there is development, its important to separate real sports development programmes from other initiatives that are concerned majorly with tapping of new talents is a by product of development.
Good initiative from cooperates like safari-com sakata ball, Airtel raising star is first is a brilliant concept in trying to bring any outstanding talent that has been missed in the mainstream so that they can be noticed and natured by stake holders in the field from the grass root to the national programmes which integrates local development with structures that are competitive in order to bring out the best, Kenya is pointed in that direction but there is still along way to go in developing sports.

Call It Love

More often than not we have explanations for  our actions, what is significant to us should not affect other who we "love" or rather we are in love with, sometimes we expect  so much from our partner that they bear the cost of our pain or least accommodate our stress thus ending up overstepping our boundaries with our expectations.  it happens most of the times as partners expect their spouses to behave like their "mums& dads" to constantly remind them of their parental figures or accept sexless relationship cause we are tired or not in the mood of it.

Why do we tend to put a lot of our energy into seeing that our partners show or behave in ways that please our ego but we do least to mold their characters that we desire in ourselves? it's much easier to complain about your partner even for our own mistakes. Take this biblical phrase that Jesus uses" it easier to see a spec in your friends eye than in your own" so change starts with us in order to reduce our stress! we really need to deal with the effects of our relationship with our partners in a solid and soberly way or rather try to find ways to cope with her, your parents, children  and most significant of all finding time for your husband or wife.

Taking responsibility for our actions is not easy for most mates in relationships but to justify their actions by making him/her responsible is much easier," men may tend to use work issue as a fact to justify why it's hard for them to spend time with their loved ones. or when her denies him sex and rationalize it with working all day so tired that she shouldn't expect her to be excited, issues of previous relationships, being upset by our partners silence cause you equate it to unspoken hostility, or dis-organized partner because we are compulsively neat?" in all this we all see the other as the cause of the problem not us. Instead of listening and  re establishing a mutual satisfying relationship.
In any relationship its often important to understand that we are all imperfect and we may have been driven to behave as we do because of other issues such as stress, fear, guilt or childhood trauma instead, we self-righteously assert that we value our self so much to put up with our partners concerns or reactions. No matter how imperfect our partners are they are a gift to us, a reflection of our being, companion and a blessing to us instead of an impediment to a fun love life for our relationship to blossoms.

Morwins, Ultimate Karate Champions

It's no doubt that the Juja based side of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology(J.K.U.A.T) Karate Club Popularly known as Morwins are this year ultimate karate champions both in clubs categories as well as in inter - university  games. A story that can only be compared to that of Atlanta's parentage which is uncertain. but one that bears the best instances of impossible can be possible, just as King Iasus with Clymene. She came into the world in the undesirable state of being female. As a result her Father had her carried into the woods and left exposed to die. Instead, she was raised during her childhood by a bear. As she grew older she began to spend time with hunters and was soon the best amongst them. Her contribution to the hunt was marred when a quarrel over giving her a trophy of the hunt resulted in the death of Meleager and his uncles. At the funeral games honoring Pelias, Atlanta entered the wrestling contests. Here she gained more fame by scoring a victory over Peleus.  

Through time Morwin have learned the art, and later rose to became the mastermind of the art, raising from a humble beginning to a point where every successful karate manager want to be associated with the  team, ultimately they are the Kenya university sports associations (kusa) champ a clear sign of the amount of hard work, sacrifice, determination, self esteem and teamwork can do as they  wins in several tournament.

As the former captain puts it, teamwork and hard work are the motivating factors of the team that struggled its way on top of the league a clear manifestation and an inspiration to any aspiring team that wishes to follow in their footsteps, they take lessons from every game that they attend, playing to outsmart their opponents and wining the hearts of their fans.

Craziness in our roads

Hundreds of families loss their loved ones daily through road accidents, a cause that is attributed to a number of factors that can be dealt with appropriately to avoid such cases, as a nation we loss on social- economic development annually thus posing a challenge in attaining Kenya vision 2030 as a result. The adoption of an Integrated National Transport Policy ( Sessional Paper No.2 of 2012) by the 10thParliament was a big achievement but one that posed a big challenge to the government to create relevant institutions, develop a comprehensive transport strategy, human capacity and adopt Intelligent Transport system. In order to avoid un necessary road carnage caused by poor road transport regulatory and past management regime. The result has been the entrenchment of bad motoring attitude and rise of Matatu culture fueled by a corrupt regulatory and enforcement regiment. It's a shame the way we have to loss innocent lives daily on our roads even when we can avoid them through observing the set regulation to maintain diligence on our roads,

According to Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) and the traffic department, the number of accidents resulting to fatalities stands at 3000 people and  Its surprising that Transport And Licensing Board(T.l.B) do exist when in the actual sense matatu float traffic rule and contravene T.l.B rule, Whereas government appears to regulate the  same industry, in the past several successful regulatory regimes have been weakened due to lack of adequate personnel in the Ministry and a corrupt enforcement regime. The 10thParliament however had passed an Integrated National Transport Policy as stipulated in the Sessional Paper Number 2 of 2012. In this Paper, written under the watch of Hon john Michuki in 2004 with a view of transforming transport sector,

It's only in Kenya that Matatu culture cultivated by a corrupt regulatory and enforcement regiment that have natured rog drivers who stop to pick and drop on highways, driving under the influence of alcohol..etc whereas there are a number of Measures that have put in place by various bodies of the government such as: Road Expansions throughout the country an example is expansion of  Thika highway into a super-highway. Laws: that gave birth to 14-seater matatus being outlawed. Introduction of Safety belts,Traffic lights system being redone within the city and its environs,The re introduction of alcohol blow is a blow to many drivers, evnthou it may not be effective in the longrun than changing our morals.

Despite of  all this, some commuter Sacco buses find there way in other region during festive season, a clear indication of the level of greediness and corruption that exist yet there is a national authorities in place to ensure safety and sanity is maintained throughout the country. It's Only in Kenya do traffic Officers often pick bribes in broad day light.

Am a supporter of night travel ban as it will aid in bringing sanity in our roads and help reduce the number of road accidents that has been on the rise, some companies even came out to protest on the burn eventho it may not have come at the right time but it will go a long way in saving millions of lives, the condition of some of bus are even worse as overworking of its staff, poor maintainers of vehicles making some company to only travel at night thus raising an eye brow on the nature and kind of Customer care that they have/exist which tends to portray how customer safety is never a priority to most of them.

All this might be appropriate mitigation measures but faces numerous challenges in its implementation strategy and its subject to wait and see if there is the will to drive the change in the transport sector so us to save thousands of lives across the nation.we all miss the old times of Hon. J. Michuki as C.S Transport,a passionate citizen.

KENYA @50

We all hold deep memories of the past, in mid 60's,when Isaiah kiplagat won 1st ever gold medal for Kenya,70's and 80's when Roger Miller and Pele's were making our football nights with cleverly crafted cuts and goals, the likes of Wangala the first ever boxing champs that Kenya has ever produced, all this are iconic sportsmen whose legends will forever be cherished.

At 50 we tell tales of existence of legends in our society Luanda Magere, Dedan Kimathi, Tom Mboya, Pinto Gama not forgetting Wamalwa Kijana. in their values we hoped to follow and ape, values we wanted to live with down the memory line, but the later isn't the spirit of a nation at 50,still fighting with the old philosophy of eradication of poverty, jiggers, common diseases, corruption and nepotism in all pillars of our economy, a nation united in grief is as good as a single arrow in a batch that could easily be broken than five in a batch,at the age of it lies a tool that we can all use to unite as, equality, rule of law, social justice transparency, good governance among others. Just as the F. Kennedy, Nelson Mandela's, Martin  L. Kings of later years believed in socioeconomic justice so shall we follow in upholding their inner virtue as well as trust in our very own Nyayo philosophy of peace, love, and unity,

The rise of tomorrows legends not only in sports but in all walks of life is a clear symbol of united we stand, divided we fall. At 50, is a humble time of forgiveness, restoration ,peace, love and unity. in Biblical perceptive Jubilee was a year characterized by anew beginning, the people whom Moses addressed in Deuteronomy were those who had survived the plagues that the lord brought in punishment of sin of the people (4:3) in view of this Moses pleaded with the new generation to be faithful to God's law and he uses the word today to emphasize that this new generation could start a new life as opposed to the rebellious past (Deut 1:10,5:1,6:6,7:11) As a nation this is a time of reflection of our past, present as well as future.
Our Respect goes to all our Hero's, captains of industries, leaders and iconic figures in our society for making it fifty that we celebrate today. Appreciation goes to all sports head, different federations and associations for making it truly Kenyan. They give us reason to Celebrate

RISE OF GOJU-KAI KENYA

The new face of Kenya Goju - Kai is a sign of great things to come,the association  has come of age with the help of Jokyo Mourice Aloo, who is the chief Instructor of and technical head,together with the top leadership under the humble guidance of Sempai Garrison Misumi who is the current Patron,

The rise of the new sport in action again will go along way to bring a new face to the way karate is being managed in the country, a break from the taboo, the current office bears seeks to unite the association, bring in new membership into the association and nurture talent across the board this will be done in phases as they seek to implement the five years strategic plan of the Goju Kai Kenya. This will see the association incorporate a comprehensive insurance policy among other things,

This year was a great year closing with the International Seminar (GASSHUKU) Cum National Grading  being graced by Hanshi Peter Brandon from South Africa and the team participation to the World Goju - kai Championship which we hope for more medals.

As 2014 appraches we greatly thank all the Dojo Heads, Sempai's, Members and the Management for making it a successful year,

Ooos, The Question that Begs?

The true spirit of karate, inspired by samorai, developed in the late  century, over times it has evolved from the ancient defense to the modern sport, practiced by millions of people around the world, inspired by great karate masters the likes of : Funakoshi, Chojun Miyagi, Gogen Yamaguchi, Higoana among other, over the years it has found its way in Kenya not only as a sport but as self-defense, a true sport anchored on discipline among its practioners in Kenya as well as around the world, a true samorai will always: Respect other, Seeking perfection of character, Endurance, Refrain from violence behavior, According to WORLD KARATE FEDERATION  statistic there are over 55m people practicing karate, the K- spirit of discipline, love, unity that bond us all, a sport that has nurtured many, yet it hasn't lived up to the expectation of its practitioners in Kenya, right from the golden times of  Kenya Association of Karate to the present Kenya Karate Federation. 

It begs a thousand question on the way the once flourishing sports is dying in the hearts of many great Kenyan karateka's. The back may stop with us but starts with management of the sport, they say being a leader and leadership are distinct right from biblical perspective to the present ways of interpreting it, some say leader are born, others leaders are made, some circumstance create leaders, and others leaders. create circumstance, we all agree that Kenyan karateka's deserve justice, peace of mind ,love, and prosperity of their sport in terms of management, game officiating, equal representation to the technical and fair election of its leaders, all this are according to the new sports bill and the constitution of Kenya. Legally, according to standard procedures given by World Karate Federation, U.F.A.K do recognize the composition of any federation as a formation of different karate styles associations coming together to form one federation to spear head their activities. 

The case is different in Kenya as federation is championed by few elite group who don't recognize the existence of other associations, there constitution and need to work as one entity through transparency,and involvement of all stake holders. the consequence of this is lack of transparency, poor leadership direction, loss of efficient and effectiveness of the federation to oversee its mandate.

Fellow sportsmen, as per current status the federation ought to have a comprehensive insurance policy to protect its members in case of any eventuality,a bank account that is possible and accessible by all to facilitate easy payment of membership,grading,referee and judges course among others as such it's possible either to publish or inspect its account book, establishing its other source of income ,expenditure among other.

This begs the question of where, who and how they handle their finances, the role of Registrar Of Society and weather such case as ever been presented to them, what possible action did they take?. the role of national Olympic committee of Kenya(NOCK) and the Commission of sport office are they aware of such things happening? All this question arise as a result of what ought to be done or what is not in place that ought to be in place, over the past the federation has continued to be facilitated by the government in different way but the laxity in championing the rights of fair justice and the law of natural justice doesn't apply to people who are suppose to protect sport men and women in our society. sports bring and unity the global people, in contrast to this the current status might not be the case for karate Kenya, game officiating is poor as individual interest is manifested by the referees, this in its own kills the sport moral, lack of election ever since formation of the federation is a killer blow to us all.
If only our leaders could uphold this virtue the case may be different, It's only through true democracy, respect of institutions and good governance can sport prosper in any given country, and serve its purpose, we hope the voice of the voiceless will be heard by all stake holders and aid in bring sanity in Kenya karate federation.
